There is not a lot to get excited about in Long Beach these day. Many residents are still displaced. The economically important summer season is quickly approaching and the boardwalk is still out of commission, courtesy of superstorm Sandy. But there's always Seanie Monaghan. Monaghan has become one of New York's best ticket sellers and hundreds of Long Beach residents supported...Read more »
Much like Nonito Donaire, Mexican sensation Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has said he wants to fight best. Alvarez hasn’t always had luck getting the big bouts, fighting the likes of Shane Mosley, Kermit Cintron Matthew Hatton and Lovemore Ndou.
Most, if not all, of those fighters are past their prime and not real contenders.
That won’t be the case on Saturday, April 20 at the Alamodome in San...Read more »
If you have spent some time around Cuban boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux, you've seen his thousand-watt smile. But it was not on display Tuesday during the media workout at Mendez's Gym in Manhattan. The ritual of the media workout is generally a prolonged photo op during which the fighter breaks a sweat and smiles for the camera. But Rigondeaux actually had a fairly serious workout.

Disappointed that the Canelo Alvarez-Austin Trout 154-pound unification fight won’t be on the Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero undercard? Don’t be. It’s better for boxing if the two are not on the same fight card.
As great as Mayweather has become, he turned 36 years old in February. Boxing needs some new stars. Alvarez (41-0-1), the WBC 154-pound champ who is now an icon in Mexico, is in...Read more »
Timothy Bradley has a bone to pick with the boxing world. Beating a fighter the caliber of Manny Pacquiao would usually elevate a boxer’s a career. That hasn’t been the case for Bradley.
Bradley scored a split-decision victory over Pacquiao last June. But there were no victory laps or ticker-tape parades for the WBO welterweight champion, who instead has received criticism for the way the...Read more »

On Saturday night, 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins fights IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Hopkins will attempt to break his own record as the oldest man to win a world title. And while that fight is still a few days away, on Tuesday, the former champion took on Lance Armstrong.
