It looks like boxing has gotten it right.

Many of the recent mega-fight shows feature a stellar main event with mostly no-name fighters on the under card.

All of that changed on Thursday with the Golden Boy Promotions announcement that the Lucas Matthysse-Danny Garcia bout was added to the Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez September 14th card at the MGM Grand.

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr., welterweight (44-0): Floyd is back in the top spot. Truth be told, it was an easy decision since Andre Ward has been inactive for so long. His win over Robert Guerrero on Cinco de Mayo proved he still has it. His September 14 bout against Canelo Alvarez is more proof that Mayweather is finally ready to put everything on the line.

2. Canelo Alvarez, junior middleweight...

After his dismantling of Robert Guerrero on May 4, its clear Floyd Mayweather Jr. has what it takes to fulfill his six-fight deal with SHOWTIME. Although Guerrero shouldn’t be confused with any of the all-time greats, he is still an excellent fighter in his prime. It was a win Mayweather needed to keep his place amongst the best in the sport.

Many in the boxing world are hoping Mayweather’s...

Who's next for Floyd Mayweather?

(Credit: AP Photo Rick Bowmer)

What’s next for Floyd Mayweather Jr.? The simple answer: whatever he wants. Truth be told, that is probably the only answer.

Mayweather is in a unique position where he has his pick of who he wants to fight, where and when. That’s a rarity in boxing these days, as promoters are often times running the show.

Need proof? Why didn’t Nonito Donaire fight Abner Mares? The two didn’t fight...

Much like Nonito Donaire, Mexican sensation Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has said he wants to fight best. Alvarez hasn’t always had luck getting the big bouts, fighting the likes of Shane Mosley, Kermit Cintron Matthew Hatton and Lovemore Ndou.

Most, if not all, of those fighters are past their prime and not real contenders.

That won’t be the case on Saturday, April 20 at the Alamodome in San...
