Could we see Chris Algieri squaring off against WBO junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov on HBO in May?
It’s something Star Boxing promotions boss Joe DeGuardia told Newsday’s Bobby Cassidy last week is a possibility.
Algieri (19-0) expanded his national profile after scoring a unanimous-decision win (97-93, 97-93, 98-92) over highly regarded prospect Emanuel Taylor in last...Read more »
Isn’t it funny how one win can rejuvenate a boxer?
Paulie Malignaggi’s unanimous-decision win over Zab Judah on Saturday at Barclays Center apparently lit a fire under the “Magic Man”.
"This is an emotional win for me. It definitely allows me to continue boxing. If I had lost, I don't know that I would have wanted to continue,” Malignaggi said. “But this big win puts me in the right...Read more »
The respect that Brooklyn natives Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah have for each other has always been there. That fact was made even more evident during the Thursday press conference for their Saturday night fight at Barclays Center.
Both fighters, normally brash and cocky during press conferences, were complimentary and respectful toward each other in the Barclays Center main entrance on...Read more »
The battle for Brooklyn is on. Brooklyn boxers Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi (32-5) and Zab "Super" Judah (42-8) will square off on Dec. 7 at Barclays Center live on Showtime.
This is probably a fight that should've taken place a few years ago, but fans are likely to enjoy the matchup regardless.

It looks like boxing has gotten it right.
Many of the recent mega-fight shows feature a stellar main event with mostly no-name fighters on the under card.
All of that changed on Thursday with the Golden Boy Promotions announcement that the Lucas Matthysse-Danny Garcia bout was added to the Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez September 14th card at the MGM Grand.
“This is the fight...Read more »
What’s next for Floyd Mayweather Jr.? The simple answer: whatever he wants. Truth be told, that is probably the only answer.
Mayweather is in a unique position where he has his pick of who he wants to fight, where and when. That’s a rarity in boxing these days, as promoters are often times running the show.
Need proof? Why didn’t Nonito Donaire fight Abner Mares? The two didn’t fight...Read more »
Danny Garcia: Garcia stayed undefeated after holding off a game Zab Judah at the Barclays Center on Saturday night. Garcia still isn’t a huge draw, so getting a fight against the elite fighters at 140 and 147 would still be an uphill climb. That notwithstanding, Garcia (26-0) proved he’s ready for the big time. Some would like to see a Garcia-Juan Manuel Marquez or even a Garcia-Tim...Read more »
If you let Zab Judah tell the story, his feud with Danny Garcia was started by someone else. In fact, Judah referred to Garcia as “quiet” and “such a church mouse” that people don’t know who he is.
Judah (42-7, 29 KOs) will take on Garcia (25-0, 16 KOs) for the latter’s WBA and super WBC and Ring Magazine 140-pound title on Saturday at the Barclays Center.
"We just left the gym...Read more »
It's going to be a super six-week run for boxing, particularly in New York. It starts on April 13, with Top Rank's super bantamweight title unification bout between WBO champion Nonito Donaire (31-1) and WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0). Donaire is the reigning Fighter of the Year and Rigondeaux is a two-time Olympic gold medalist who defected from Cuba in 2009. This card will be...Read more »
It was a win that Amir Khan needed in the worst way.
After losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, some suggested that the former champion hang up the gloves. This was especially true after Khan’s devastating 4th-round knockout loss at the hands of Garcia.
Khan (27-3, 18 KOs) came back in a big way on Saturday night, scoring a 10th-round TKO over Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KOs) at...Read more »
