David Haye next for V. Klitschko?
Leave it to David Haye to keep himself in the boxing headlines, despite not being part of the action since last summer. In fact, there is doubt that the former WBA champion will even fight again.
Haye got into a brawl with Dereck Chisora following the latter’s bout with Viatli Klitschko in Munich on Saturday. Chirosa was detained by Munich police for several hours following the altercation. Police were also searching for Haye, who was not in his hotel room when the authorities came knocking.
Why is this important? Haye was butt of jokes in the boxing world after claiming a broken toe kept him from letting loose in his fight against Wladimir Klitschko last summer. He talked about wanting a rematch or a possible bout with Vitali Klitschko.
Neither came to fruition.
Haye was recently in discussions with Vitali Klitschko for a bout, but the British heavyweight’s hesitation to take the fight forced Klitschko to move on. There’s still a possibility the two could fight later this year. The question is does Haye even want the fight. Klitschko isn’t so sure.
"David Haye is so unpredictable and we tried to make a deal and I hope the fight comes through, but right now we are miles apart from making the contract," Klitschko said. "Right now, I don't want to talk about it. I am focused totally for the Chisora fight and I hope that after Dereck Chisora, David Haye changes his mind and I can give a chance to David Haye to fight for a world title.”
Now that Klitschko dispatched Chisora, will Haye step up to the plate?
“David Haye always tries to find excuses why fights do not happen,” Klitschko added. “I hope David Haye one day makes a decision to fight me."
Don’t hold your breath.
