Video of Fredette on his 49-point night in December

He's probably the best player the east coast hasn't heard of.

Those things happen when you play in the Mountain West Conference sometimes. BYU junior guard Jimmer Fredette scored a Mountain West tournament-record 45 points in the Cougars' 95-85 win over TCU in a MWC quarterfinal game on Thursday night.

He wasn't perfect from the field (10-23), but he drained 23 of 24 free throws.

BYU (29-4) also set a record for school victories with the win.

This isn't the first time Fredette has lit up the scoreboard. Fredette scored a career-high and school-record 49 points against Arizona on December 28.

Fredette is shooting 45 percent from three-point range and 89 percent from the foul line. For those who haven't seen Fredette play, you will during the tournament. The No.14 Cougars figure to be at least a sixth seed. If they win the MWC, they could conceivably be a fifth seed.
