Mike Dunlap could finally be headed to St. John’s as Steve Lavin’s lead assistant for the basketball team.  Dunlap, who was Oregon’s associate head coach, was bypassed as longtime Creighton coach Dan Altman was named Monday.

Dunlap, who had also interviewed for the opening at Colorado, was offered the St. John’s several weeks ago.

Lavin is also waiting to hear from Rice High School coach Maurice Hicks, who would become the director of basketball operations. Oregon, which fired Ernie Kent, reportedly gave Altman a seven-year contract at $1.8 million annually.
