Army lacrosse team eyes title in Patriot League tournament
The Army Black Knights lacrosse team is heading into postseason play hoping to win its first Patriot League title since 2010.
The Black Knights have had success during the past decade under head coach Joe Alderici, who had led Army to eight straight appearances in the Patriot League tournament. Only the top four teams in the eight-team conference play in the tournament.
Third-seeded Army comes into Friday's semifinal matchup against second-seeded Bucknell with four wins in the last five games. Their strong finish elevated the Black Knights to a No. 19 ranking in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches poll, their first ranking of the season.
Army hopes leading scorers John Glasener and Garrett Thul can propel the team to the league championship. If the Black Knights beat Bucknell, they will face off Sunday against the winner of the Colgate-Lehigh matchup, which will be played later Friday night.
The contest between Army and Bucknell will start at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Ulrich Sports Complex at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. It will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
