Jabarie Hinds, former Mount Vernon star, transferring from West Virginia
Jabarie Hinds, the former Mount Vernon High School basketball star, is leaving West Virginia University.
Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins announced Monday that Hinds was among three players who will transfer from the program. Hinds’ next destination was not immediately clear.
“I just want to say thank you to my teammates & the fans for the all the love and support I received,” Hinds tweeted Monday afternoon.
West Virginia went 13-19 this season. Hinds, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard, played in all 32 games, averaging 7.4 points a game, but he saw less playing time late in the season. He scored a season-high 20 points against Iowa State on Jan. 16.
At Mount Vernon High, Hinds led the Knights to a state championship in 2011 and was named the Class AA State Player of the Year.
