Midwest Region first round games

At Oklahoma City: No.16 Lehigh (22-10) vs. No.1 Kansas (32-2) – Kansas has too much size and depth for Lehigh to deal with. Sherron Collins, Xavier Henry and Cole Aldrich will have no issues with this one. Lehigh does have a local product in Prentice Small (St. John Baptist) to keep track of.

At Providence: No.11 San Diego State (25-8) vs. No.6 Tennessee (25-8) – Tennessee doesn’t have a lot of individual firepower, but the Vols always find a way to get it done. San Diego State plays in a good conference (Mountain West Conference) and have a balanced scoring attack led by Kwahi Leonard, so Wayne Chism and Scotty Hopson will need to be on their games tonight.

At New Orleans: No.9 Wake Forest (19-10) vs. No.8 Texas (24-9) – Nothing can explain what happened to Texas, which was once the No. team in the country. But the thought here is that Damion James will carry the Longhorns to a win going away against Wake. Speaking of the Deacons, they were worse than Texas down the stretch. It has been an offensive nightmare as of late. Al-Farouq Aminu is going to have to fire up the squad in this one.

At San Jose: No.14 Montana (22-9) vs. No.3 New Mexico (29-4) – Steve Alford and his New Mexico crew are out to prove they are no fluke. The Lobos have the talent to do just that, thanks to an offense with four double-digit scorers led by Darington Hobson (16.2 ppg) and Roman Martinez (14.8 ppg).
