The Hofstra men's basketball team is expected to be in a rebuilding mode in the 2011-12 season and that is reflected in the conference preseason poll released Tuesday. The Pride was picked to finish eighth in the 12-team Colonial Athletic Conference.

Drexel was picked to finish first in the men's poll, followed by George Mason, VCU and Old Dominion. VCU advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament last season. Hofstra guard Mike Moore was a second-team selection to the preseason all-conference team. ODU guard Kent Bazemore was chosen as the CAA's preseason player of the year.

On the women's side, Hofstra is expecting a more productive season and was selected fourth. The Hofstra women trailed Delaware, VCU and James Madison in the poll. Pride forward Shante Evans was a first team all-conference selection. Delaware's All-American forward Elena Delle Donne, considered one of the best players in the nation, was the preseason player of the year.
