It was too much Omar Samhan and Mickey McConnell for No.2 Villanova today. Samhan had 32 points on 13-for-16 shooting and seven rebounds and McConnell added 15 points, including a huge three with 1:15 left to lift No.10 St. Mary's to a 75-68 win.

Scottie Reynolds couldn't find the range for the second straight game. The senior guard had eight points on 2-for-11 shooting. Corey Stokes had 15 points and Maalik Wayns had 10 points for Villanova.

Mickey McConnell drained a three off the glass from about 28 feet, giving St. Mary's a 68-65 lead with 1:15 left. Villanova had the ball and a chance to tie, but Reggie Redding was rejected on a layup attempt by Samhan. McConnell added two more free throws on the ensuing possession for St. Mary's, extending the lead to 70-65 with 40 seconds remaining.

Omar Samhan hit two free throws, followed by a three from Matt Dellavedova to put the Gaels up 64-61. But Maalik Wayns came back with a driving layup for Villanova, cutting the lead to one, 64-63, with 2:49 left. 

Villanova had no answers in the firsr half for St. Mary's, which led 33-21 with 3:51 left. The Wildcats made an 8-0 run and got within 33-29 with 1:19 left. But Omar Samhan converted a three-point play, followed by two free throws from Beau Levesque, giving St. Mary's up 38-29 with 58 seconds left.

Villanova added two free throws with four seconds left, cutting the lead to 38-31.
