Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell received a contract extension through the 2014-2015 season, the school announced on Thursday.

Pikiell, the 2010 America East coach of the year and All-MET coach of the year, led the Seawolves to their first America East regular season title with a 22-10 mark.

Stony Brook also made its first NIT appearance as a Division I program and fell to Illinois, 76-66, in front of a packed house at the Indoor Sports Complex.

Stony Brook players garnered several individual post season honors. Senior guard Muhammad El-Amin was named America East player of the year, while Bryan Dougher and Tommy Brenton earned a place on the All-America East second team.
