Athletic director Jim Fiore was very pleased that the NIT accepted Stony Brook's bid to host a game, after the school spent about $75,000 to make the arena fit to hold a big game. The team had played all season at Pritchard Gymnasium, which is too small for the postsesason.

"We're never had a postseason game, we've never had a Big 10 team and we've never been on ESPN. Now we have all three," Fiore said.
