Heisman Trophy finalists 2012
A look at the three finalists for the 2012 Heisman Trophy, listed in alphabetical order.
COLLIN KLEIN, Quarterback, Kansas State
Signature win: Klein led the Wildcats to a win at Oklahoma, plus wins over Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas and at TCU. But his best game statistically was at West Virginia, when he threw for 323 yards and three TDs and ran for four TDs.
Negative for voters:Threw 3 INTs in K-State’s only loss, a 52-24 blowout at Baylor on Nov. 17, which is fresh in voters’ minds.
QB, Texas A&M, Sophomore
2013 stats: 270-391, 3,732 yards, 33 TDs, 13 INT; 132 carries, 675 yards, 9 TD
Manziel won the Heisman last year -- the first time a freshman won the trophy -- but he struggled towards the end of the year as the Aggies finished the season on a two-game losing streak. Those 464 yards against Alabama in Week 5 seem like a long time ago. |
MANTI T'EO, Linebacker, Notre Dame
Signature win: There are several, but the Oklahoma game was the best for Te’o: 11 tackles, a sack and an interception to seal a 30-13 win on the road against the then-No. 8 Sooners in late October.
Negative for voters: Only one defensive player has won the award (Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997), and he also played some wide receiver and was a punt returner.
