No. 6 Georgia lost to No. 24 South Carolina on Saturday, but it was by no fault of Gurley’s. The junior ran for 131 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries in the Bulldogs’ 38-35 loss. He’s averaging 9.4 yards per carry through two games. LAST WEEK: 1

2. MARCUS MARIOTA, QB, Oregon, Junior

Marcus Mariota’s season stats: 50-71, 806 yards, 8 TDs; 20 carries, 156 yards, 3 TDs

Mariota was his usual efficient self in No. 2 Oregon’s 48-14 win over Wyoming. The junior completed 19 of 23 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns while adding 71 yards and two scores on five carries. Mariota is completing 70.4 percent of his passes and has yet to throw an interception. LAST WEEK: 2

3. JAMEIS WINSTON, QB, Florida State, Sophomore

Winston and the Seminoles were off this week. No. 3 Florida State plays No. 23 Clemson on Saturday. LAST WEEK: 3

4. KENNY HILL, QB, Texas A&M, Sophomore

Hill continued to stamp his name among the season’s top quarterbacks in No. 7 Texas A&M’s 38-10 win over Rice. The sophomore completed 20 of 31 passes for an even 300 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 38 yards on five carries. Like Mariota, Hill has yet to throw an interception this season. LAST WEEK: 5

5. EVERETT GOLSON, QB, Notre Dame, Senior

Golson continued his roll Saturday, completing 25 of 40 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns in No. 11 Notre Dame’s 30-14 win over Purdue. The senior also ran 14 times for 56 yards and a score. He also has yet to throw a pick this season. LAST WEEK: 6

6. TAYSOM HILL, QB, BYU, Junior

He’s not a household name yet -- maybe not even the most well-known Hill on this watch list -- but Taysom Hill has opened eyes en route to leading No. 25 BYU to a 3-0 record. The dual-threat junior completed 21 of 34 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown in the Cougars’ 33-25 win over Houston on Thursday, though he did throw two interceptions. He also ran 26 times for 160 yards and another score. LAST WEEK: Unranked

7. AMEER ABDULLAH, RB, NEBRASKA, Senior

Abdullah, a senior, ran for 110 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in Nebraska’s 55-19 rout on Saturday night. Abdullah and the Cornhuskers will play Miami on Saturday. LAST WEEK: 7

8. AMARI COOPER, WR, Alabama, Junior

Cooper had eight catches for 135 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown in the first quarter as No. 3 Alabama cruised to a 52-12 win over Southern Mississippi on Saturday. The junior continues to put up big receiving numbers early in the season.LAST WEEK: 8

9. BRETT HUNDLEY, QB, UCLA, Junior

Hundley left No. 12 UCLA’s 20-17 win over Texas after suffering a left elbow injury in the second quarter. Prior to the injury, he had completed all four of his passes for 48 yards. His Heisman hopes continue to dim, and he’ll need a big performance in the Bruins’ next game -- against Arizona State on Aug. 25 -- to stay in the conversation. LAST WEEK: 4
