Nine matchups on the regular-season calendar that mean the most in determining the title plus another that merits “dishonorable’’ mention:
Oregon vs. LSU, Saturday: Mega-opener matching two of best from Pac-12 and SEC will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tough start for loser.
Boise State vs. Georgia, Saturday: Like last season, Broncos of Mountain West travel cross-country in search of signature win. Boise State QB Kellen Moore is 38-2 in his career.
Oklahoma at Florida State, Sept. 17: Big 12 and ACC favorites replay last year's 47-17 Sooner blowout in Norman. Seminoles are tougher in Tallahassee.
Ohio State at Miami, Sept. 17: Two perennial powers facing NCAA investigations are matched in “Scandal Bowl’’ symbolic of troubles plaguing game.
Nebraska at Wisconsin, Oct. 1: Cornhuskers' move from Big 12 started realignment dominoes. They debut in Big Ten’s toughest spot, then get Ohio State the following week.
LSU at Alabama, Nov. 5: Should determine SEC West champion and might punch winner's ticket to BCS title game.
Texas A&M at Oklahoma, Nov. 5: Resurgent Aggies are the “now’’ team after 6-0 finish before Cotton Bowl loss to LSU. It’s their only tough road game.
Oregon at Stanford, Nov. 12: Winner of the Pac-12 North gets home field for first conference title game and gets in mix with SEC and Big 12 for BCS title.
TCU at Boise State, Nov. 12: TCU and Broncos cross paths for one year in Mountain West before Horned Frogs move to Big East. BCS at-large bid on line.
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State, Dec. 1: With no Big 12 conference title game, this could decide BCS title bid or might create three-way tie with Texas A&M.
