Norman Richardson a Hofstra HOF inductee for 2013
Remember Norman Richardson? Any sports fan that went to Hofstra in the last 15 years should.
Richardson will be part of a group of seven individuals and two teams that will be inducted into Hofstra’s 2013 Hall of Fame Class at the Hofstra University Club on April 13.
Richardson, a 6-6 guard, played for the Pride from 1997 to 2001 and was part of Hofstra’s last two NCAA Tournament teams in 2000 and 2001. Speedy Claxton was the household name during most of those years.
But Richardson, who was a great player for Hofstra in his own right, put up career numbers during the 2000-2001 season and helped lead the Pride to the NCAA Tournament without Claxton, who departed in 2000.
Richardson is currently ninth on Hofstra’s career scoring list with 1,677 points and third in three-point field goals made (192). He won the Haggerty award and was named America East Player of the Year in 2001.
Kathleen Durnski (lacrosse, soccer), Lena Malinowski (volleyball), Greg Poli (baseball), Lance Schulters (football) Doug Shanahan (football, lacrosse) Alicia Smith (softball), the men’s basketball team from 1959-1960 and the 1981-1982 women’s basketball team will all join Richardson as part of the 2013 class of inductees.
