ALBANY -- The beauty of this America East conference tournament for Stony Brook is that, unlike last year, the Seawolves don’t have to face Albany on its home floor at SEFCU Arena in the semifinals. As the No. 1 seed a year ago, the SBU left heartbroken after Great Danes guard Mike Black drove for the winning layup in the final seconds of a 61-59 win.

After routing Maine, 80-54, in their...

It was a banner regular season for the Stony Brook women's basketball team. And the America East rewarded the squad as four Seawolves players took home all-conference awards.

Senior guard Chikilra Goodman (11.8 ppg, 7.8 reb, 2.7 stl) and junior forward Sabre Proctor (14.9 ppg, 5.7 reb) were both first-team All-America East selections. Goodman was also first team All-AE defense as well as the...

There are many places Hofstra can look to for motivation to succeed in Friday's CAA first-round game against ninth-seeded UNC-Wilmington.

One place the No. 8 Pride, who square off against UNCW at 7:00 p.m., can look to is how they finished the regular season. Hofstra (9-22) dropped three of its final four games. But the three losses came by a total of 15 points, including an 81-77 setback...

If this week’s poll looks identical to last week’s, there’s a good reason to think that. Manhattan changed places with Quinnipiac and St. Francis swapped positions with Columbia. The rest of the teams all remained the same.

1. St. John’s (19-11)

2. Iona (20-9)

3. Stony Brook (21-9)

4. Manhattan (22-7)

5. Quinnipiac (19-10)

6. Wagner (18-11)

7. St. Francis...

(Credit: George A. Faella)

Last season, No. 1 Stony Brook’s regular-season-ending victory over Albany was a double-edged sword because it dropped the Great Danes to the No. 4 seed and set up an ill-fated meeting in the conference tournament semifinals at SEFCU Arena on the UAlbany campus. A two-point semifinals loss ended the Seawolves’ NCAA tournament hopes.

But this year, the Seawolves (21-9, 13-3 America East) are...

Hofstra freshman Jamall Robinson picked a good time to have a career-high with 22 points in an 82-71 win over James Madison Saturday night at the Mack Sports Complex. The win was a high point in a difficult season when coach Joe Mihalich came from Niagara to succeed Mo Cassara in a program with few assets.

Recruiting season began late for Mihalich, but he landed the 6-5 Robinson, who started...

If you're a strict numbers person, Stony Brook's 69-53 loss at Vermont was brutal.

Seawolves’ leading scorer and rebounder Jameel Warney finished with just seven points on 3-for-10 shooting with one board.  Anthony Jackson, who entered the game with 998 points, didn’t score. And Dave Coley, the Seawolves’ fourth-leading point man finished with zero points, too.

Sophomore guard Carson...

Zeke Upshaw shines for Hofstra during down season

(Credit: James Escher)

Putting Zeke Upshaw's season for Hofstra in perspective isn't a hard thing to do. Just look at the numbers.

The 6-6 guard is averaging 19.7 points per game, third best in the CAA. He’s had three games of 30 or more points, including 37 in an overtime loss to Richmond in November.

It’s an impressive feat considering he averaged just 1.6 points per game at Illinois State, including 2.5...
