Congratulations are in order for former Hofstra standout Lizanne Murphy (pictured left) and former LIU forward Kyle Johnson for their Olympic appearances.

Murphy helped team Canada advance to the quarterfinal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The 6-foot forward averaged 4.5 points and 2.3 rebounds in six games as the Canadian squad went 2-3 in pool play.

Here’s an updated list of all Division I coaching changes. There were 45 in all, with the highest profile changes taking place at Illinois, Kansas State, LSU and South Carolina. That’s what Tom Pecora’s crew will be when his team’s season tips off on November 9 at Texas State.

Six of the Rams first seven games will be on the road, which includes games in the Preseason NIT against Pittsburgh. Fordham will host Bronx rival Manhattan on November 29 in its first home contest of the season.

Fresh off a record-breaking season which featured a road win over Connecticut and its first trip to the Sweet 16, St. John’s and first-year head coach Joe Tartamella will be tested early in the 2012-2013 season.

It’s another year and another tough non-conference for the Hofstra women.

Much like last season, Pride coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey is intent on preparing her squad for a post-season run. Last year Hofstra finished its season 19-11 and earned a WNIT berth.

Hofstra’s non-schedule for the 2012-2013 season has a little bit of everything, including games against three 20-win teams and one NCAA Tournament squad from last season.

The Iona men’s basketball program suffered a devastating loss on Thursday when 2012-2013 recruit Michael Haynes was shot and killed.
