Lindsay Scott scored six goals to lift the Hofstra women’s lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over Columbia Saturday at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Drew Shapiro scored the go-ahead goal with 11:19 remaining to give the Pride a 10-9 advantage. Scott, who was one goal shy of tying her career high, tacked on another goal with 8:29 remaining to help seal the victory in what was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Hofstra scored the first four goals of the game before Columbia responded with five unanswered goals to take a 5-4 lead. Scott’s unassisted goal with 2:46 left in the half evened the score at 5. Shapiro and Scott scored consecutive goals to give the Pride an 8-6 lead with 24:52 to go.
Elena Schorr had four ground balls and Becky Conto had four draw-controls. Morgan Knox had a goal and two assists, and Maddie Fields made nine saves for Hofstra (2-8). Lindsey Ewertsen had three goals to lead Columbia (5-6).
The Pride next plays at William & Mary on Friday at 6 p.m. in its Colonial Athletic Association opener.
