It depends on who you believe.

The Los Angeles Daily News reports here that USC, looking for Pete Carroll's replacment, sent a contract to current Jacksonville Jaguars head coach and former Trojans linebacker Jack Del Rio on Monday night.

Del Rio would make sense. He has a USC background from his playing days, he has NFL coaching experience and is a defensive guy. All good things for USC.

The Los Angeles Daily News also has sources saying current Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin, who coached under Carroll at USC, is under consideration and former NFL head coach Herm Edwards was contacted, but wasn't considered a serious candidate.

Meanwhile, Jack Del Rio told WJXT of Jacksonville that he had not received a contract offer from USC and was busy preparing the Jaguars for next season.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News story, the key will be Del Rio's meeting today with Jacksonville owner Wayne Weaver. Del Rio is still owed $15 million on his contract. If Weaver fires Del Rio, the money must still be paid. However, if Del Rio resigns to take the USC job, he won't get the $15 million.

UPDATE: According to multiple reports, Del Rio will remain head coach of the Jaguars.
