Reid Maxmin of Katonah, Duke win lacrosse national championship
Reid Maxmin, a reserve midfielder on the Duke lacrosse team, didn’t see the field in Monday’s national title game, but he will soon sport a championship ring.
Maxmin, a freshman, is from Katonah and played at John Jay High School. The son of two Duke alumni – his father, Chris, also played lacrosse for the Blue Devils – Maxmin earned a spot on Duke’s team as a walk-on this season.
The Blue Devils defeated Syracuse, 16-10, in Philadelphia to win their second title in four years.
“It really is a dream come true,” Maxmin -- in an April interview with The Charlottesville (Va.) Daily Progress -- said of playing for the Blue Devils. “It’s honestly been one of the most incredible things.”
Maxmin, who is 6-foot-4, 175 pounds, played in five games for Duke this season.
Two other Westchester County products also had national-title aspirations when the day began. Syracuse senior midfielder JoJo Marasco, who scored two goals Monday, played at Somers High School, and Orange junior midfielder Stefan Carpentieri played at Byram Hills High.
