After interviewing Tom Gamble Tuesday, the San Diego Chargers are expected to name their new GM soon, according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network. But according to him, Gamble isn't atop the Chargers' list. Instead, Breer reports that in-house director of player personnel Jimmy Raye and Colts director of player personnel Tom Telesco are the front-runners.

Amid rumors Gamble was a sure bet for the Jets, reports surfaced that owner Woody Johnson was "eyeing" another candidate.

Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell is now out of the running for the Jets' vacant GM job, having reached an agreement in principle Tuesday to become the Jaguars new GM. Caldwell flew to New Jersey earlier in the day to meet with the Jets owner Woody Johnson, but ultimately chose Jacksonville.

And according to Breer, the Jets are "scrambling a bit" now that they've lost out on Caldwell. He reported the Jets put in a request to speak with Telesco this week, "but Telesco has pushed that back."

So for now, the Jets are down to Gamble, in-house assistant GM Scott Cohen and Giants' director of college scouting Marc Ross. (Packers' exec John Dorsey also was being considered at one point, but he appears poised to land in Kansas City.)

Then again, Johnson could decide to widen his GM search.
