MetLife Stadium won’t be the only New York City-area venue to see a lot of action the weekend of Super Bowl XLVIII. Madison Square Garden will have its fill of events on Super Bowl eve, Feb. 1, highlighted by a nationally televised game between the Knicks and the defending champion Miami Heat at 8:30.

But the day begins at MSG with a college hoops doubleheader. St. John’s will play Marquette in a Big East conference game at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Big Ten-Big East matchup between Michigan State and Georgetown at 3 p.m.

“Madison Square Garden will be buzzing on Super Bowl weekend when the Johnnies play host to Marquette and Georgetown meets Michigan State,” said St. John's head coach Steve Lavin. “With three Big East squads in action and Coach [Tom] Izzo's perennially-tough Spartans, this doubleheader at The Garden will be a great showcase for our league and a terrific experience for college basketball fans.”

The Red Storm-Marquette matchup will be televised live on Fox Sports 1.
