Marcus Henry began working for Newsday’s city edition in April 2003. He’s been a part of the Newsday high school/local college sports desk since then, covering both Long Island and New York City colleges and high schools. In addition to his experience covering the New York Metro-area local colleges -Hofstra, Stony Brook, St. John's- he also covered the WNBA’s New York Liberty for three seasons. Prior to coming to Newsday he spent four years working for PA SportsTicker, a real time sports newswire service. Marcus has also freelanced for the New York Amsterdam News, College and Pro Football Weekly, and the National Sports Weekly. In addition to his work on the local desk, Marcus is also a huge boxing fan and a member of the Boxing Writers Association of America. He has covered several fights for Newsday, including the Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto-Shane Mosley, Cotto-Michael Jennings and Cotto-Zab Judah fights.
Even Adrien Broner’s mentor Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks the brash young fighter got a little too big for his britches.
We’re referring to Broner’s decision to stay at welterweight and fight Marcos Maidana, instead of moving back to junior welterweight or even lightweight after his fight against Paulie Malignaggi.

Seton Hall is still No. 1 in the women’s hoops poll this week, while a red-hot Rutgers team moved up one place to second. Fordham is off to a great start and us up one spot to third after winning two games last week. Manhattan moves to the top of the poll after winning four straight. St. John’s fell to second with Stony Brook moving up one place to third. Princeton is steadily making a climb, jumping one place to fourth, while Iona tumbled two places to fifth.

Sometimes a boxer just need to be humbled.
Broner learned the hard way during his unanimous-decision loss to Marcos Maidana (117-109, 116-109 and 115-110) at the Alamodome on Showtime on Saturday night that boxing isn't about talent. It's about being sensible.
