Stony Brook basketball will be both heard and seen this season as both its mens and womens basketball programs will be featured on ESPN’s family of networks a combined eight times during the America East conference schedule. Stanford: The Cardinal exceeded all expectations in Saturday night’s 21-14 win over USC. Not only did they prove they could move on without Andrew Luck, they all but debunked the theory that USC would be a serious threat to Alabama and LSU for the national title. After a last-second loss to Northwestern and a very respectable losing effort against USC, some called Syracuse the best 0-2 team in the country because of the prolific passing of quarterback Ryan Nassib. Offense shouldn’t be an issue for the Seawolves, who features arguably the best FCS RB combo in Miguel Maysonet and Marcus Coker. But again, this game will be about the Stony Brook defense. St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin added Darrick Martin to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Martin played for Lavin at UCLA in 1991-92 when Lavin was an assistant. Martin, a point guard, played 13 seasons in the NBA for seven teams. Martin spent the past two season with the Minnesota Timberwolves as an assistant coach and player development specialist.
