Last season, No. 1 Stony Brook’s regular-season-ending victory over Albany was a double-edged sword because it dropped the Great Danes to the No. 4 seed and set up an ill-fated meeting in the conference tournament semifinals at SEFCU Arena on the UAlbany campus. A two-point semifinals loss ended the Seawolves’ NCAA tournament hopes.
But this year, the Seawolves (21-9, 13-3 America East) are...Read more »
The three-game suspension of senior guard Anthony Jackson, one of Stony Brook’s tri-captains, coincided with the real start of America East play if you dismiss the one December league game. But the Seawolves scored a 23-point victory last Sunday at Hartford without Jackson and followed up with a 67-47 triumph over Binghamton Wednesday night at Pritchard Gym.

Stony Brook’s 77-62 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday night at Pritchard Gym had some nail-biting moments that belie the final score. The Seawolves blew all but three points of a 17-point lead before pulling away with a 15-3 run at the end of the game.

But it’s the Seawolves’ other freshman – backup point guard...Read more »
If there’s one thing that sticks in Steve Pikiell’s craw about Stony Brook’s loss earlier this season at Vermont, it’s the number 81 – as in the season-high number of points the Seawolves yielded. The Catamounts led by 18 points with 10 minutes left, and when SBU cut the deficit to four, Vermont managed to get to the rim for easy baskets down the stretch of its 81-73 win.

It’s been a topsy-turvy year in college basketball, and the America East Conference is no exception. Stony Brook lost its grip on first place when it was upset Sunday at Hartford, but Vermont returned the favor with a loss Tuesday night at Boston University while the Seawolves were romping to a 73-47 win over last-place Binghamton.
That means Stony Brook (18-6, 9-2 America East) has a half-game...Read more »
