The top three remain the same in this week’s women’s metro hoops poll, with St. John’s occupying the top spot. Fordham is up two spots to fourth after two straight wins, while Iona moves up from seventh to fifth after three straight wins.

After taking two of three games at the 2K Sports Classic in Detroit, Stony Brook regains the top spot in the Metro Hoops Poll. Stony Brook sophomore big man Jameel Warney had arguably the best two-game stretch in program history, totaling 55 points and 40 rebounds. He had 32 points and 21 boards in Sunday’s 104-102 (3 OT), win over Detroit.

After a 2-0 start to the season, Stony Brook begins the season as the top season in the Newsday Metro Hoops Poll. Manhattan, after an impressive double overtime win over La Salle, checks in at No. 2, while St. John’s sits at 0-3 despite a loss to Wisconsin to opens its season. Last season was good to the New York City metro-area college basketball teams as four squads (Stony Brook, St. John's, Iona, LIU Brooklyn) made post season appearances.

There's nothing like getting a jump on a season.
The Manhattan Jaspers will do just that when they travel to Nassau, Bahamas on July 31 to play three games against the Bahamas national and junior national team.
The Jaspers will have two days of practice before playing on August 2, 3 and 4. Manhattan returns to New York on August 6.

Hofstra: The Pride (3-7) has had a rough go of it lately, particularly on offense. The Pride has failed to reach the 60-point plateau in four of its last five games. Mo Cassara’s crew remedied that a bit on Saturday with its 88-84 loss at LIU. The loss still hurts, but Hofstra did find a new weapon. Penn State Taran Buie scored 29 in the loss.
