The elephant in Stony Brook’s room, as everyone often reminds coach Steve Pikiell, is the Seawolves’ failure to earn their first NCAA Tournament bid despite all the success they have achieved the past five years – four 20-win seasons, three regular-season America East titles and two previous trips to the conference final to play for the automatic NCAA bid.

It’s not that Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell doesn’t enjoy having more offensive weapons at his disposal than past editions of the Seawolves have had. But when SBU suffered a 73-69 shootout loss to New Hampshire recently, breaking a 23-game home winning streak in America East play over three years, Pikiell didn’t like the team he saw in the mirror.

But it’s the Seawolves’ other freshman – backup point guard...Read more »
The world and the NCAA Selection Committee will little note nor long remember Stony Brook’s 83-39 victory over UMBC Tuesday night at Pritchard Gymnasium. The poor Retrievers (6-20, 4-9 America East) simply were outmanned by the Seawolves (20-6, 11-2).
But while the quality of opposition was low, the manner in which Stony Brook turned a nine-point deficit into a 44-point blowout spoke volumes...Read more »
