Da'Shena Stevens had 17 points and nine rebounds and was one of four players to score in double figures for St. John's in an 82-52 win over host Massachusetts last night in a non-conference women's game.

Junior Centhya Hart had a career-high 14 points and freshman Shenneika Smith added 12 points.

Ahead 40-23 at the break, St. John's blew the game open with a 33-20 run and led 73-43 with 4:42 to go.

North Babylon graduate Eugeneia McPherson chipped in 11 points for the Red Storm (2-0). UMass is 1-1.

C.W. Post 69, Queens 67:Gina Catherall had 17 points, including a three-point play with 5.5 seconds left to win it for Post (2-0, 1-0 ECC). Janea Aiken also scored 17 points for Post. Brittany Faherty tied a career-high with 15 points for Queens (0-1).

MEN'S BASKETBALL

SUNY-Old Westbury 85, York 78:Hakiem George (19 points) was one of six players to score in double figures for Old Westbury (1-0) in non-conference. Shane DeNully had 11 points and eight assists, Patrick Bonna had 11 points and four steals and Jason Kondra had 10 points. York is 0-1.
