Dave Coley had 17 points and Tommy Brenton had 12 points, including three late free throws, as visiting Stony Brook held on for a 67-60 win over University of Maryland-Baltimore County in an America East game Wednesday.

It was the eighth straight road win for Stony Brook, which turned a 33-26 halftime lead into a 50-35 advantage on a layup by Jameel Warney with 10:35 left.

UMBC chipped away, cutting the Seawolves' lead to 64-60 with 17 seconds left on a free throw by Chase Plummer (11 points).

But Brenton went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line over the next 10 seconds to provide the final margin for Stony Brook (14-5, 5-1).

"Tonight we had to grind out a road victory against an improved UMBC team," said Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell. "We have to get better, and we have to prepare for a good Maine team on Saturday."

Brenton added seven rebounds and four assists and freshman guard Carson Puriefoy reached double digits for the third time in four games with 10 points.

Jameel Warney had nine points and seven rebounds and Eric McAlister chipped in nine points and six rebounds for Stony Brook.

The Seawolves shot 42 percent from the field and held the Retrievers to 34.8 percent shooting.

Ryan Cook had 14 points and Quentin Jones and Brett Roseboro each added 11 points for UMBC (4-14, 2-3).
