Courtney Lawrence, a Rocky Point High School product, struck out seven and allowed five hits and one walk in a complete game to lead Suffolk County Community College to a 13-0 win over Montgomery College (Md.) on Sunday to claim the NJCAA District H Championship in Rockville, Maryland.

SCCC (29-10) advances to the NJCAA Division III College World Series May 19-21 in Rochester, Minnesota, said coach Joe Kosina, whose team is on a 27-game win streak.

Paige Baker (Brookhaven) went 2-for-4 and Jessica Parente (Mount Sinai) went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two walks.

“It was a good win,” said Kosina, a second-year coach. “Any time you get to play for a national championship, it’s a lot of fun. It feels good coming off last year . . . the team won seven games.

“We had a good, hard-working group of sophomores and a very talented freshman class. To be 29-10 with a chance to compete for the national championship is a nice feeling.”
