Undefeated Sachem East still atop Big 10

1. SACHEM EAST FIELD HOCKEY

The Flaming Arrows added three more wins last week - outscoring opponents 17-0 - and pushed their win streak to 37 games. Cara Trombetta scored twice in a 2-0 win over Bay Shore in a rematch of last year's Suffolk Class A final. The two-time defending state champs have looked unstoppable.

2. SACHEM NORTH FOOTBALL

Senior halfback Malik Pierre had three touchdowns for the second straight week as the Flaming Arrows beat Northport, 34-20. Pierre finished with 200 yards on 17 carries.

3. ST. ANTHONY'S BOYS SOCCER

With goals from Matt Vandenberg and Ryan Healy, the Friars defeated defending CHSAA champion Chaminade on Oct. 1. Michelangelo Sini scored twice in the first half and Josh Weiss made nine saves as St. Anthony's defeated St. John the Baptist, 3-0.

4. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER

It was another perfect week for the defending county champions as Amanda Garrity scored the go-ahead goal in a 2-1 win over Farmingdale and Skyler Vitiello knocked in a ball off a corner kick to seal a 3-2 win over Oceanside. Massapequa squares off against South Side on Thursday.

5. BABYLON FOOTBALL

Senior Jake Carlock returned two punts for touchdowns and added two short scoring receptions as the Panthers rolled to a 16th straight win with a 48-8 victory over Hampton Bays. The Panthers own LI's longest current win streak.

6. HALF HOLLOW HILLS EAST GIRLS TENNIS

Stephanie Chikvashvili and Vanessa Scott led Hills East to one-sided victories over Commack and Whitman this week.

7. ST. ANTHONY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

The Friars finsihed third at last weekend's McQuaid Invitational. Louis Santelli finished 11th in 15:12.6. Patrick Tucker was 25th in 15:24.7.

8. SOUTH SIDE GIRLS SOCCER

The defending state champs have rolled since their draw in the league opener, winning six straight. Allie Ford scored her first varsity goal in a 3-1 win over Bellmore JFK and Keri Cavallo knocked in the winner in off an assist from Katie Ford in a 2-1 win over Clarke.

9. MASSAPEQUA BOYS SOCCER

Behind the strong play of goalkeeper Dan Vitiello, Massapequa has allowed only one goal all season and has outscored opponents 22-1. Nick Bernhard, Brendan Gallivan and Brandon Merklin have all emerged as difference-makers on offense and defense.

10. GARDEN CITY FIELD HOCKEY

The Trojans (8-0) have dominated with balanced scoring and ball control. Garden City has outscored its opponents 44-2, and that includes five teams that made playoff runs last year. The Trojans will host rival and defending Nassau Class B champ Manhasset (7-1) today.
