Of all the demeaning labels assigned over the years to college basketball's NIT -- Nobody's Interested Tournament, National Insignificant Tournament, Not Invited Tournament -- a new moniker is now in order. Call it the National Independent Tournament. It no longer is a predetermined hometown event.

In Jonathan Schmidt's estimation, records are not made to be even spoken. The C.W. Post senior is 18 points away from breaking Garee Bryant's 10-year-old basketball scoring record of 1,835. It could happen today when No. 2 Post (22-0) hosts Dowling on senior night.
