5 Giants questions for training camp
Newsday's Giants beat writer Tom Rock poses five questions that need to be answered during training camp for the Super Bowl champions.
WHO REPLACES MARIO?
Third wheels may be bad on dates, but they’re crucial to a wide receiver group. The Giants need to find someone to take the place of Mario Manningham.
WHO STARTS AT CORNERBACK?
Terrell Thomas and Prince Amukamara (pictured) have both made it clear they expect to win the starting job opposite Corey Webster. Both are coming off injuries (Thomas missed all of 2011 with an ACL; Amukamara most of his rookie season with a broken bone in his foot) and have something to prove.
CAN WILSON PICK IT UP?
And not only pick up the offense, but pick up the blitz? It’s pretty clear that the Giants won’t let first-round pick David Wilson on the field unless he proves he can protect Eli Manning from would-be sackers.
HOW WILL THE O-LINE LOOK?
For many years the offensive line was a constant for the Giants. Then last year changes led to an NFL-worst rushing game. Many familiar faces are back for ’12, such as David Diehl (pictured), but there are also younger players pushing some veterans.
WHO’LL PLAY LINEBACKER? AND WHERE?
Perry Fewell has a few weeks to figure out how best to deploy Michael Boley, Keith Rivers, Mark Herzlich, Chase Blackburn and Mathias Kiwanuka (pictured). They may have more pieces than positions available at first, especially considering how often they’ll play sub packages with just two linebackers.
