Antonio Pierce was on the field plenty in Saturday night's game. He wasn't in uniform, but the middle linebacker couldn't help but find his way into the action, whether it was to break up a slight special- teams skirmish or give some advice to the linebackers who were taking his place.
Pierce has missed two preseason games with a foot injury, and Tom Coughlin said he hopes he can practice this week.
"I think that would be a very good starting point if he could do that," Coughlin said. "I won't know that until we actually get into a position where we can make that call, probably [Monday]."
The Giants have two practices this week before their final preseason game against the Patriots on Thursday night. Will Pierce be available for that game? "The doctors are making the call with regard to that," Coughlin said.
Drops don't worry Jacobs
Brandon Jacobs, the player who probably has the most to gain from the Giants' passing attack, given that it will create space for him to run against opposing defenses, said he's not concerned about the dropped passes Saturday night. "We're all human," he said. "Put it like this: Those guys know when they need to step up and play well and they know what they need to do. They know when and they know how."
Other injuries
RB Danny Ware had tests done on the ribs he bruised in Saturday's game and Coughlin said he is day-to-day . . . Coughlin said Jacobs, who injured his forearm in the game and had X-rays that were negative, will be fine. He said CB Aaron Ross and DT Chris Canty, both of whom are dealing with hamstring injuries, are "progressing."
