SAN FRANCISCO — Eli Manning did not wear any Giants logos when he attended the news conference for finalists of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award on Friday. But it was clear he had the team close to his heart.
On his left lapel he wore a pin with the initials “ATM” in memory of Ann Mara, who passed away on Feb. 1, 2015. It was a pin similar to the stickers the Giants wore on their helmets during the 2016 season.
“We lost Mrs. Mara this year, our owner,” Manning said. “I saw [the pin] and wanted to bring it out here and wear it for a few events in honor of her. She was a special lady. I had a nice relationship with her, I always sought her out. So I wanted to wear it in honor of her.”
