It would have been easy -- and frankly almost expected -- for Perry Fewell to rill into town and start picking off defensive assistants with a six-shooter of pink slips. You're fired! Ping! You're fired! Zap!

He's not doing it. In fact, the only changes to the defensive staff (or the entire Giants coaching staff for that matter) came before Fewell was hired. They dropped Bill Sheridan, whose post Fewell now occupies, and dismissed Mike Waufle.

This morning on Sirius NFL Radio's The Opening Drive, Fewell said he's not making any more changes.

“I have a lot of confidence in the staff that’s presently here,” Fewell said. “Both secondary coaches have a Super Bowl ring. One guy (Peter Giunta) has two Super Bowl rings. Our linebacker coach is well known and an excellent linebacker coach. So we just want to fill that defensive line position with another knowledgeable person that can help us get over the top.”

No word yet on who that might be. Maybe we'll find out soon. Fewell is scheduled to have a conference call with the media on Thursday.
