Safety Kenny Phillips will miss the rest of the New York Giants’ season with an injury to his left knee.

The team placed him on injured reserve Thursday afternoon and announced it was awarded safety Aaron Rouse off waivers from Green Bay. He was waived Monday.

Phillips, who had two interceptions in Sunday night’s win over Dallas, has been bothered by the knee for about a month. Coach Tom Coughlin had said he thought Phillips could deal with the injury on a weekly basis, but something obviously happened after Sunday’s game.

With Phillips out, C.C. Brown will start Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Injuries in the secondary have become a concern for the Giants. Cornerbacks Aaron Ross and Kevin Dockery missed the opening two games with hamstring injuries and don’t appear ready.
