Antonio Pierce said he thinks he can play two or three more seasons in the NFL, and he has no reason to believe they won’t be with the Giants.

“I think with everything that’s gone on that I’ve been here for the last five years, and everything that I gave New York and the organization, that I’ll be here,” Pierce said on Sirius NFL Radio yesterday, a day after being placed on injured reserve with a bulging disc in his neck. “If it’s my last year with New York next year or this year, I’ve had a great run . . . But I don’t concern myself with that right now.”

Pierce, 31, has one year remaining on his contract with the Giants and many have speculated that the team will cut him in the spring. Pierce has sought a contract extension since last season, but the Giants have not given him one.

“I feel like I’m going to be back stronger than ever next year,” Pierce said. “If it’s in New York, I’m pretty sure it will be, and if not then I’ll play my  off somewhere else.”

Pierce, the team’s defensive captain, said he’ll continue to be around the players and he plans on being on the sideline for the game against the Cowboys Sunday.

As for the injury, Pierce remained perplexed that he is not feeling any symptoms from the bulging disc that showed up on a Nov. 20 MRI. Pierce said doctors have told him he needs about two or three months of rest to have the disc return to normal and that surgery has not been discussed.

He said he is not suffering pain, nor has his strength diminished. Doctors worried that a hit could exacerbate the injury. Pierce wanted to play despite the risks.

“I felt like I could talk them into it and said that I can control how I hit and which way I hit,” Pierce said. “But you really can’t, not in football. You get hit from every which way. So after you think about it logically, it’s probably the best thing.”
