The Giants lost one running back to injury this week. They brought two in to replace him.

With Andre Brown sidelined for the rest of the season with a broken fibula, the Giants announced the signing of Ryan Torain and Kregg Lumpkin Tuesday night. To make room for the new players on the roster, the Giants placed Brown on injured reserve with a designation to return and waived offensive lineman Selvish Capers, who had been promoted from the practice squad last week.

The Giants had already put running back Da'Rel Scott on injured reserve earlier this season and, with Brown out, had just Ahmad Bradshaw and rookie David Wilson as healthy options. "That would be about as thin as you could make it," Tom Coughlin said Monday.

Torain is the more accomplished of the two. In 10 games with the Redskins in 2010, he ran for 742 yards and four touchdowns while catching another two touchdowns.

Lumpkin had 33 carries for 124 yards and 45 receptions for 325 yards in parts of two seasons with the Bucs.

The practice squad contract of running back Joe Martinek was terminated. If Capers clears waivers, he'll likely rejoin the team on the practice squad.
