Jacobs OK after injuring forearm
Brandon Jacobs almost became this year's Osi Umenyiora and joined the list of stars to suffer serious injuries in a Giants-Jets preseason game.
The big Giants running back was hit by a helmet on his right forearm while running for a 7-yard gain in the first quarter of last night's game.
He was quickly taken into the locker room for X-rays, but before a full-fledged gasp could be heard from Giants fans who might not have even noticed the injury, Jacobs was back on the sideline rooting on his teammates. After having a pad taped to his arm, he even returned to the game in the second quarter. X-rays, obviously, were negative.
"I'm good," Jacobs said. "No problem. Nothing that's going to hold me out."
Last year the Giants lost Umenyiora for the season when he injured his knee in this game. In past years, players such as Chad Pennington and Jason Sehorn also have suffered serious injuries in the matchup.
Jacobs caught a touchdown pass to cap the opening drive, but after his return to the field, he was stripped of the ball by Bart Scott for a lost fumble.
Where's Sinorice?
While the Giants' receivers were dropping passes all over the field, Sinorice Moss stood and stewed on the sideline. The fourth-year player did not get on the field with the offense until deep in the second half.
"I don't have any [explanation]," a clearly miffed Moss said of his limited use. "You don't think I'd be frustrated? I am. But there's nothing I can do. I'm not the coach."
Tom Coughlin said Moss did not play so the Giants could get rookies Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden reps with the first unit. But Moss said he came into the game expecting to see his usual number of reps.
"I really don't know what to say about what happened," he said. "But when I did step on the field, I went out there and did my best."
Giant steps
Kevin Dockery started at CB for Aaron Ross (hamstring). Gerris Wilkinson started at weakside LB for Michael Boley (hip) and split time with Bryan Kehl.
