Jason Pierre-Paul still has not signed his franchise tender, but Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he wants to see the defensive end at next month's mandatory minicamp.

"I expect him to be there," Coughlin said, "but we'll have to see."

Until he signs the tender, Pierre-Paul is under no obligation to attend. And he has not been a participant in the Giants' offseason program thus far this spring.

That doesn't mean he's been completely out of the picture. He showed up for the first day of the program just to say hello and has been in contact with the team during the last few months.

"We went back and forth about two weeks ago with some text inquiries and so on and so forth," Coughlin said of Pierre-Paul. "He's working hard. He tells me he's working hard. And he's spoken to [defensive line coach] Robert Nunn on more than one occasion too."

Until he actually signs and shows up to work, though, those conversations are as close as the Giants and Pierre-Paul may get for a while.
