The Giants have signed TE Carson Butler to their roster, adding another tight end to compete for backup time behind Kevin Boss. That role was originally held by Darcy Johnson this past year but was ultimately handed over to Bear Pascoe.

Butler could very well be the Lee Vickers of the 2010 Giants.

A little background on him: He played at Michigan and moved to defensive end late in his senior season. He was undrafted and signed with the Packers. He was waived before training camp started and signed with the Lions, playing in all four of their preseason games. Unable to make that roster he signed on the Detroit practice squad and was released from it by late September. The 49ers signed him to their practice squad for a week, signing him on Oct. 29 and waiving him on Nov. 3. He was on the Bengals practice squad on Dec. 30 and finished the season there, including a week of playoff pay.
