Notes: Coughlin delivers positive news on Burress

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Plaxico Burress joined his teammates for the Giants' 50-minute walk-through yesterday at the Cardinals' practice facility in Tempe, and coach Tom Coughlin sounded a positive note about Burress' knee and ankle injuries.

Said Coughlin, "I think he's a little bit better ... He gets a little bit better each day and hopefully, we'll be able to have some further improvement [today]."

Burress did not officially practice this past week, though he did run a couple of routes in individual drills Thursday and Friday. He has not missed a game despite not practicing for much of the season because of one or both injuries.

Shockey in town

Jeremy Shockey decided to travel to Arizona to see his team play Super Bowl XLII live. The injured tight end, who still is on crutches after Dec. 21 surgery to stabilize his fractured fibula, arrived in Phoenix on Friday and will attend the game.

A team spokesman said he was unsure whether Shockey will be on the Giants' sideline or elsewhere. Shockey did not address the team at the Giants' final meeting last night.

Shockey had been undecided about whether to attend because he was "devastated" about not being a part of the Giants' postseason run, according to tight ends coach Mike Pope.

Gadson in town, too

Lt. Col. Greg Gadson, who lost both legs to an improvised explosive device in Iraq and was on the Giants' sideline for the playoff wins in Tampa and Green Bay, arrived in Arizona on Friday and watched the team's walk-through yesterday. He will be an honorary team captain for Super Bowl XLII, as he was for the NFC Championship Game. He was first on the Giants' sideline for their win over the Redskins on Sept. 23. Gadson and Giants wide receivers coach Mike Sullivan were classmates and football teammates at West Point.
