Brandon Mosely will be the improbable starter at guard

Not even Brandon Mosley thought he’d be in a position to be starting in the preseason opener when training camp began a few weeks ago. But it looks like he’ll be there at right guard with the first unit when they take the field against the Steelers.

Mosley was a fourth-round pick last year who injured his ankle in the second preseason game and landed on IR. Now he’ll be seeing his first live snaps in almost a year, protecting Eli Manning and opening holes for David Wilson and Andre Brown.

Regular starter Chris Snee (hip) just came off PUP on Tuesday and will not play in the game, and backup James Brewer suffered a concussion on Tuesday and has not yet been cleared to return. That leaves the job to Mosley, who said he’s not nervous.

“Just ready to get out there and do what I can do and prove to everybody what I can do,” he said.

He's been impressive so far.

"I can tell just by watching how quickly he’s moving," Snee said of the comfort of Mosley (even though he was actually being asked about Brandon Myers but assumed the question was about his replacement and answered as such). "The more understanding you have of the offense you’re able to be more comfortable and just play football. Brandon is coming along well. There’s still a lot of stuff to learn, he didn’t get all those reps last year in practice so he’s pretty much in the same situation that Pugh and Herman are (as rookies)."

We asked Mosley yesterday if Snee had given him any advice for his first start.

"Just kind of focus on your technique, calls, and just talk out there," Mosley said.

I asked if Snee's advice to him also included a warning not to be too good.

"Yeah," he said.
