Now that Will Beatty is still a Giant, he wants to win a Super Bowl with the team.

“No time like the present,” the left tackle told Newsday via phone on Wednesday evening. “I mean, we’re hosting it.”

The Giants (and Jets, ahem) are hosting Super Bowl XLVIII in about 11 months. The last time the Giants won a Super Bowl Beatty was on the sideline, on injured reserve having suffered a detached retina late in the season. Beatty, in fact, has never even played in a playoff game for the Giants in his four-year career.

What has to change for that to change in 2013?

“We gotta have that drive and passion each and every game,” Beatty said. “We showed signs last season of being the Giants who, if they get into the playoffs they’re going to go to the Super Bowl, they’re going to win it, bring home another ring back to back. Other games we showed: Giants who? We can’t get blown out and then blow another team out. That consistency has to be there.

“And to be deprived of the playoffs, for some of these young kids it was like ‘Yeah we went there once but it ain’t easy.’ You can do the exact same thing -- we basically had the exact same year in wins and losses (as in 2011) -- and you see where it gets you. You always have to keep improving. I think not being in the playoffs gives us that hunger and drive. It’s like, you’re hosting it. It’s your hometown. You missed it last season. That’s going to give us a lot of momentum. You’re home here for the game. Everything is in your favor. Make it happen.”
