Tom Coughlin had never really embraced the idea of the Super Bowl countdown calendar in the Giants’ locker room, shrugging it off at the start of training camp when general manager Jerry Reese decided to install it as a reminder of urgency.

So now that it’s about as useful as a sundial at night, Tom Coughlin’s attitude towards the daily reminder of days remaining until Super Bowl XLVIII – 53 as of today – has seemingly gone from apathy to disdain.

Asked if the countdown will be removed now that the Giants have been eliminated from playoff contention, Coughlin said brusquely: “I didn’t put it up so I’m not taking it down.”

Coughlin was then asked if it was still hanging in the locker room.

“I don’t know,” he grumbled. “You tell me.”

Reporters will be in the locker room after practice today, right around 1:50 p.m. No countdown required for that.

Perhaps they'll keep it up as a courtesy to whichever NFC team is in the Super Bowl and using their locker room in the last week in January.
