Giants injuries mounting

It’s not just the Giants’ record that’s hurting.

At least 10 players will appear on today’s injury report – one of them, FB Henry Hynoski, having already been moved to injured reserve – and six others did not participate in today’s practice. Last week on Wednesday, the Giants had just two names on their injury report.

Not working today were: offensive linemen David Baas (neck) and Chris Snee (hip), TE Adrien Robinson (foot), CB Corey Webster (hip), LB Jacquian Williams (knee) and CB Terrell Thomas (knee). Spencer Paysinger (hip) and Cooper Taylor (shoulder) were limited. David Diehl (thumb) practiced for the first time since having surgery in training camp.

The Giants may not be waving the white flag just yet, but there are more than a few red flags on the injury report.

First, the linemen. Coughlin described Snee and Baas as “day-to-day,” but that can cover all manner of timelines. Coughlin did say that Snee’s hip issue is not the same one that was surgically repaired, which may actually be worse because it’s a whole new issue.

If the Giants are without both of those veterans on Sunday, they could be forced to have Jim Cordle and James Brewer in the starting lineup. There are other permutations the Giants could look at, which also include the possibility of Diehl playing guard.

Then the cornerbacks. Thomas in particular. Coughlin said Thomas may have to be “managed” for the rest of the season as he comes back from a third ACL surgery just around a year ago now. Thomas has not missed any practices since returning to the field off PUP early in training camp and has played extensively in the first three games. But perhaps the strain of doing so has caused him to have a bit of a setback. “The accumulation (of snaps) has gotten to him a little bit,” Coughlin said.

The expectation is that Thomas will practice tomorrow. Webster may practice tomorrow too. And Williams is expected to go tomorrow.
