Hakeem Nicks not practicing
For the first time since he returned from his foot surgery, Hakeem Nicks was not practicing with the Giants today. It may not be anything to be alarmed about. Coming off his surgery, Nicks will undoubtedly need to manage the injury to some extent and this may be a planned day off to keep him on track for Wednesday’s game.
Here’s what Nicks said yesterday about the pain in his foot: “I ain’t really worried about it limiting me at all. If I’m out there, I’m out there. I’m still practicing. I practiced full go (Saturday), so, you know, if I feel like it was going to be that serious I wouldn’t be able to practice full go, so, I practiced full go (Saturday), no problems. You know it’s just a matter of, it ain’t feeling great, it is what it is, and it’s time to play ball.”
Nicks was not in pads, but he was able to walk on the field and was catching passes from the quarterbacks as they warmed up. He was standing still for that, though.
On a more positive note, Marvin Austin (back) was in pads and seemed to be practicing in individual drills. Tom Coughlin said yesterday that he was getting positive reports on Austin.
James Brewer (back) was running on the side, but Will Beatty (back) was practicing.
Prince Amukamara (ankle) was doing some jogging on the side. He’ll almost certainly miss the opener, but Week 2 – which is two weeks from today – seems to be a very strong possibility for his return.
